State media in Lebanon is reporting that at least 20 people were killed and 450 wounded in an apparent second round of exploding electronic devices used by the Hezbollah militia.
Wednesday’s blasts reportedly affected hand-held radios in the terrorist’s inventory and home solar generators in several areas where the Tehran-backed militants are known to operate.
A Lebanese security source told Reuters the walkie-talkies were purchased by Hezbollah’s procurement agents five months ago, and they were likely obtained already compromised with an unidentified explosive material.
The incidents follow Tuesday’s episode, widely thought to have been organized by Israel’s intelligence services, of booby-trapped pagers simultaneously detonating while in the possession of Hezbollah personnel.
The afternoon incursion resulted in the deaths of 12 and the injuring of more than 2,800.
Hezbollah, which has blamed Jerusalem for the infiltration, announced shortly after the second disturbance that its forces launched rockets at two Israeli artillery positions in response to the latest upheaval.
At the request of Algeria, the United Nations Security Council is expected to meet Friday to discuss the potentially escalating circumstances.
