South Korean parliamentarians were warned on Thursday that North Korea may have enough plutonium and uranium to construct a “double-digit” number of nuclear warheads.

Citing a presentation by the country’s intelligence agency during a closed-door meeting, lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun told reporters Pyongyang may possess around 154 pounds of weapons-grade fissile material, sufficient to produce between 50 and 90 nuclear devices.

In addition to the Stalinist regime's capacity to produce weapons of mass destruction, Lee revealed Seoul's worries about the elusive nation improving its missile delivery systems to achieve greater power and accuracy.

The revelations follow a public appearance by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at a purported uranium enrichment facility earlier this month, where the dictator called for an increase to the country’s nuclear arsenal.

Kim’s visit to the secretive site was followed by the test firing of several ballistic missiles the following week.
