Iran Air Flights to E.U. Cancelled Amid Sanctions Imposed on Regime

Transportation authorities in the Islamic Republic announced Tuesday that all flights on Iran Air to destinations in the European Union will be indefinitely suspended.

The mass cancellations are reportedly the result of new sanctions imposed by Brussels on the air carrier in response to accusations the company transported munitions to Russia for use in the Ukrainian conflict.

"Iran Air was the only airline in our country flying to Europe, and considering the new sanctions of the European Union against Iran Air, not a single Iranian airplane will fly to Europe now," Maqsood Asadi Samani, the Director of the Association of Iranian Airlines, told the state-controlled ILNA news agency.

"Flights to Europe in this situation will probably be made through connecting flights in intermediate countries, such as Turkey and the UAE," the director surmised.

A spokesperson for the regime’s foreign ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, condemned the action and stated that Tehran had no involvement in supplying the restricted weapons to Moscow.

The measure also affects Mahan Air and Saha Airlines.
