On Thursday, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov cautioned Israel against targeting the Islamic Republic’s nuclear infrastructure in response to a missile attack on the Jewish state carried out by the theocracy on October 1.

"We have repeatedly warned and continue to warn, to caution against even hypothetically considering the possibility of a strike on nuclear facilities and nuclear infrastructure," Ryabkov told the TASS News Agency. "This would be a catastrophic development and a complete negation of all existing principles in the area of ensuring nuclear safety."

The senior diplomat’s remarks follow a statement earlier this week from Israel’s Prime Minister’s office, which indicated that if an incursion occurred, it would focus solely on striking military facilities.

Ryabkov also informed the state-controlled news outlet that, despite the ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East, the Kremlin was maintaining constant communication with its allies in Tehran.

Similar warnings have been publicly communicated to the Israeli government by the White House.
