Longshoremen in the Greek port of Piraeus prevented the loading of military materials onto a container ship scheduled to depart for Israel on Thursday, according to a report by BalkanInsight.
Employees of the Union of Cargo Handling Workers halted a commercial vehicle from North Macedonia after it was determined to be holding a consignment of ammunition expected to be used by the IDF in its conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah.
The decision follows earlier directives from the union’s leadership to ban the transfer of weapons to the Jewish state.
In June, the laborers participated in a similar incident by blocking a vessel from entering a local terminal after it had previously transported supplies for the Israeli armed forces.
The truck carrying 21 tons of cartridges is reportedly under the control of harbor officials in Keratsini as an investigation into the matter continues.
