On Monday, content moderators from the social media company X suspended the Hebrew-language account of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, just one day after it became active.
The measure was taken after the autocrat posted a response to Saturday’s attack on his theocracy by Israel’s Air Force, in which he reportedly said, "The Zionist regime made a mistake and erred in its calculation regarding Iran. We will make it understand what power, ability, initiative, and desire the Iranian nation has."
Following the remarks, the deactivated page displayed a message stating, “X suspends accounts which violate the X Rules,” without specifying which terms of service were breached.
Khamenei is known to use multiple profiles and communicate in several languages on the popular microblog, including Arabic, English, Farsi, French, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu. While he has frequently disseminated similar rhetoric across those sections, they do not appear to be affected by the recent interruption.
In February, the 85-year-old was removed from Facebook and Instagram for expressing support for Hamas after the terrorists committed the October 7 massacre in southern Israel.
