A security officer employed at the United States Embassy in Oslo was arrested at his residence on Wednesday on charges of allegedly spying for both the Islamic Republic and Russia.
The accused Norwegian national is currently in custody for a four-week pre-trial detention, after investigators reportedly uncovered a substantial amount of potentially incriminating evidence on his electronic devices.
The suspect's lawyer confirmed to Reuters on Thursday that his client had been in “contact with intelligence agents from Russia and Iran,” but it was too early to determine whether anti-espionage laws could be applied in his case.
A spokesperson for Norway’s Police Security Service said the detained individual is cooperating with interviewers.
