Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin canceled a trip to Europe for meetings this week focused on NATO and Ukraine as he remains in the hospital, officials said Monday.
Austin returned to the hospital Sunday, just over a month after he was initially hospitalized for complications from prostate cancer surgery. Austin was under scrutiny after the first hospitalization was kept secret for days, including from President Joe Biden.
After being admitted Sunday, he was transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center's critical care unit later in the evening, CNN reported Monday.
Austin was scheduled to travel to Brussels for NATO and Ukraine meetings this week, but his trip was called off. It is unclear how long Austin will remain hospitalized.
