On Tuesday, a court in South Korea issued a detention warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol as part of an investigation into his decision to impose martial law earlier this month. The ruling also authorizes investigators to search his office and private residence.
An attorney for the president called the order "invalid" and vowed to challenge it before the country’s Constitutional Court.
On December 3, Yoon granted emergency powers to the South Korean military, allowing them to restrict protests, political activities, and media coverage. The 64-year-old member of the People Power Party accused opposition lawmakers of engaging in subversive behavior with North Korean officials.
Yoon's presidential authority has been suspended since December 14, following a successful impeachment motion by the National Assembly.
