A security source told Israel’s i24 News on Tuesday that the planned ‘humanitarian pier’ being built by the U.S. military has been completed. The logistics structure, located in central Gaza, is expected to enter service on Saturday.

Construction, which started on April 26 and was finished on schedule, included roughly 1,000 U.S. combat engineers at the cost of $320 million. Initial funding estimates were half of the final expenditure.

When fully operational, the facility is expected to help aid officials dispatch 150 trucks per day.

One area of its planned location was subject to a mortar bombardment on the first day of building operations.
