The Israeli Air Force launched an operation targeting an Iranian arms shipment located west of Damascus on Sunday, according to Syrian opposition news organizations.

As of now, there have been no reports of casualties, and the amount of damage caused by these strikes remains uncertain. This incident reportedly triggered the activation of Syrian air defense systems.

Video footage shared on social media captured the sound of explosions echoing throughout the area, although it remains unconfirmed whether these were the result of the airstrikes or if they were caused by Syrian counter-fire.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has traditionally refrained from making public statements regarding military strikes conducted in Syria. However, they have acknowledged their involvement in previous attacks against Iran-backed proxy-groups striving to become established in the region.

The IDF states that these operations are primarily aimed at preventing arms shipments from reaching these groups, with a particular focus on Lebanon's Hezbollah terrorist organization.

Israel has frequently leveled allegations against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, claiming that it actively supports Tehran's activities in the country.
