Russian-Ukrainian Arrested on Alleged Sabotage Related Charges in France

French law enforcement officials announced on Wednesday that they arrested a 26-year-old man who has dual Russian and Ukrainian citizenship on alleged terrorism-related charges.

The suspect, reportedly from the Donbas region in Ukraine, was taken into custody after he was said to have suffered serious burns following an explosion in his hotel room near Paris's Charles de Gaulle airport on Monday evening.

The French National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office announced that the blast was caused by the accidental ignition of bomb-making materials that were in his possession.

Local media reported that firearms and fake passports were also discovered at the scene.

U.S. officials told NBC News that homemade triacetone triperoxide (TATP), a compound that has been used for terrorist attacks in the past, was found with his belongings.

The sources also suggested that the incident could be part of a sabotage operation against facilities that aid the Ukrainian military as it fights its current war with Russia.
