Notorious British Islamist Anjem Choudary was found guilty of terrorism-related charges on Tuesday after a six-week trial in London.
Prosecutors at the Woolwich Crown Court alleged that the 57-year-old preacher and former lawyer engaged in a longstanding ‘caretaker role’ for the terrorist organization al-Muhajiroun and persuaded his followers to uphold its operation.
Choudary was previously incarcerated in 2016 for encouraging others to support the Islamic State.
Canadian codefendant Khaled Hussein, 29, was convicted of membership in a proscribed organization for his affiliation with al-Muhajiroun.
Law enforcement agencies from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States were reported to have assisted in the investigation.
Choudary faces up to life in prison at his sentencing hearing.
