The White House announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington next week.
"The leaders will discuss the state of the war between Russia and Ukraine, including Ukraine’s strategic planning and U.S. support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. The President and Vice President will emphasize their unshakeable commitment to stand with Ukraine until it prevails in this war,” Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Thursday.
The September 26 meetings take place as Zelensky is pressuring Western allies to permit his country’s military to strike targets deeper into Russian territory, while Kiev continues to defend its borders against Moscow’s 31-month-long invasion.
The visit is planned to follow Zelensky’s Tuesday address at the United Nations General Assembly during the opening of their 79th session in New York.
Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he expects to also have an audience with Zelensky during the trip.
