Hamas terrorists fired eight rockets into central Israel on Sunday afternoon, the first such incursion since January.

Israeli military officials said that the missiles were fired from between two mosques in the embattled Gazan city of Rafah, where IDF forces have been operating since earlier this month.

Three of the projectiles were reported to have been intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, while five were said to have landed in non-populated areas.

The episode set off air raid sirens in Tel Aviv, Herzliya, and Petah Tikva.

Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency service, announced that two people were injured in the attack.

A spokesperson for the terror group said that the action was in response to "the massacre of civilians."

Approximately one and a half hours after the first bombardment, another launch targeted Jewish communities near the Gaza border. The second barrage caused no casualties, as one munition was shown to have landed next to a school in Kibbutz Sa’ad.

War cabinet minister Benny Gantz suggested that the incident underlined the necessity of completing the current Rafah mission to eradicate Hamas’s fighting ability.
