Fake bomb threats were sent to polling locations in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin as Election Day voting was taking place, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a Tuesday statement.
The agency determined that none of the communications appeared credible and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
A number of the messages were traced to Russian email domains, raising concerns that they could be part of an election interference effort by Moscow aimed at key battleground states.
At least two venues in Fulton County, Georgia, were temporarily evacuated by authorities in response to the incidents.
Russia’s embassy in Washington dismissed the allegations as "malicious slander," adding, "Russia has not interfered and does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, including the United States."
