France’s defense minister revealed Tuesday that the nation’s armed forces conducted attacks on ISIS positions in Syria over the weekend.
"On Sunday, French air forces carried out targeted strikes against Islamic State sites based on Syrian territory," Sebastien Lecornu stated in a post on X.
The operation followed an announcement from the United States last week, confirming its personnel had eliminated two ISIS associates transporting munitions in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor Province on December 23.
Despite the overthrow of Syria’s Ba'athist dictator Bashar al-Assad on December 8, several Western nations remain engaged in an anti-ISIS mission in the war-torn country. Earlier this month, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, Daniel Shapiro, confirmed Washington’s intent to stay in the region and continue the efforts it began in 2014.
