Israeli firefighters battled forest fires in northern Israel that were started by rockets fired from Lebanon on Sunday by the Hezbollah terrorist organization.

Israeli military officials reported that 40 Katyusha rockets were launched in several deployments in the area after overnight airstrikes on the Tehran-backed proxy group.

The inferno, near the Golan Heights municipality of Katzrin, is reported to have consumed 2,500 acres of land located in and around the Yehudiya Forest Nature Reserve.

According to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, it may take several years for the local environment to recover from the damage.

In separate bombardments on Sunday, 23 projectiles were reported to have caused additional fires during an attack that targeted Kiryat Shmona and Margaliot.

The IDF said that six reservists were treated for smoke inhalation during the attempts to control the blazes.

Israel’s prime minister’s office released a statement saying that they were closely monitoring the situation.
