Israeli military officials on Tuesday released video footage of the tunnel in Rafah’s Tel Sultan neighborhood where six Jewish hostages were found murdered last month.
The recording, narrated in English by IDF Spokesperson Adm. Daniel Hagari, displayed a 120-meter-long corridor adjacent to a 20-meter shaft that was connected to a Gazan child’s bedroom.
The subterranean passageway appeared to contain bottles or urine, clothing, dried food, a hairbrush, Islamic religious materials, Kalashnikov rifle magazines, several mattresses, and a makeshift toilet. Large bloodstains could be seen on the ground, presumably the location where the captives were killed by Hamas gunmen.
“They were here in this tunnel in horrific conditions, where there is no air to breathe, where you cannot stand. They survived, but they were murdered by terrorists,” Hagari said while experiencing difficulty in maneuvering throughout the underground prison.
The deceased, identified as Ori Danino, Carmel Gat, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alex Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Eden Yerushalmi, are thought to have been executed two days before their bodies were discovered on August 31.
