Israel’s communications minister Shlomo Karhi arrived in Riyadh on Monday, leading a delegation representing Israel at the 2023 Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union.

The delegation comprises 14 prominent members from both the Israeli government and the Ministry of Communications. This visit is a significant development as it reflects the ongoing rapprochement between Israel and Saudi Arabia, with the possibility of a normalization agreement looming on the horizon.

Karhi's office stated that the Minister is slated to deliver a speech during the conference and engage in meetings with the other attendees, including U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Michael Ratney.

After arriving, the minister released a statement where he said “we’re here during the Sukkot holiday, at an international conference. We’ll meet with representatives from around the world and will bring the peace between the State of Israel and Saudi Arabia closer.”

The meetings are being hosted at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh and are scheduled to conclude Thursday.

The Universal Postal Union, a specialized agency of the United Nations, plays a pivotal role in maintaining international postal regulations.
