The Ukrainian Air Force announced Tuesday that Russia launched 188 drones targeting 17 regions of the country the previous evening. The seven-hour assault was noted as the largest single strike using the lingering munitions since the war began nearly three years ago.
While most of the attack was intercepted by air defense units, officials acknowledged some of the Kremlin's Islamic Republic-designed Shahed drones damaged critical infrastructure, including the national power grid.
Authorities confirmed the bombardment also included four Russian Iskander hypersonic ballistic missiles.
The incident follows months of battlefield gains by Russia’s armed forces in the eastern parts of the war-torn nation, with Moscow reporting on Tuesday the capture of the municipality of Kopanky in the Kharkiv region.
