A surveillance camera captured a Palestinian terrorist ram his van into a an Israeli border police officer Wednesday morning, and then exiting his car attempting to stab the officer at a checkpoint between the West Bank town of Abu Dis and the Maale Adumim settlement.
The video, obtained by The Foreign Desk, shows the van get close to the checkpoint where the officer is standing on the sidewalk and then veers left, ramming into him, causing him to go flying before hitting the ground. The driver then gets out of his car and stabs the guard with scissors.
The troops at the station helped neutralize the assailant, identified by Hamas as Ibrahim Halassa, 25, of the West Bank. He was killed at the scene.
The terrorist also was carrying a pipe bomb, according to police, likely planning to throw it at the soldiers at the checkpoint. The guard, 20, was treated for injuries at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
