More than one million migrants evaded authorities under the administration of President Joe Biden, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources told Fox News on Sunday.
Since Biden assumed office in January 2021, there have been more than 1.2 million ”gotaways”—migrants who have successfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border undetected by authorities.
During the first two years of Biden’s term as president, the number of undocumented migrant encounters at the border has skyrocketed. Fiscal Year 2022, saw more than 2.4 million migrants crossing the border, breaking records.
Monthly migrant encounters at the border increased from 101,000 in February 2021 to 251,000 in December 2022, according to CBP statistics.
The CBP has estimated that there have been more than 718,000 undocumented migrant encounters in the first 100 days of the Fiscal Year 2023, which began on October 1, 2022.
The CBP usually records the number of migrant encounters at the southern border, however, the figure usually does not include how many migrants were identified but not taken into custody.
Biden and his administration have been criticized for their handling of the border crisis, which is overwhelming several border cities with the unprecedented influx of migrants. Additionally, several migrants are being sent to northern Democratic cities, such as New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., in an attempt to ease the shelter system in the border region.
