A senior Hezbollah official was eliminated and several others were injured during an airstrike near the Lebanese village of Jennata on Thursday night, according to Arabic media.
The incursion occurred at 11:30 p.m. local time, near an area where Israel dispatched Sami Taleb Abdullah, another commander of the Tehran-backed terrorist group on Tuesday.
Lebanon’s An-Nahar newspaper reported that a two-story building was the primary target and that several drones were seen operating above the structure after the incident.
Egypt’s state-run Al-Qahera News identified the deceased as Hashim Safi Al Din, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council and cousin of the jihadist group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
The 60-year-old Shia cleric is considered to be Nasrallah’s main deputy and the second most powerful individual in the organization.
The action comes as Jerusalem has been dealing with relentless rocket, drone, and missile launches by Hezbollah against Druze and Jewish communities in northern Israel since the start of the October war in Gaza.
The bombardments have become so severe that last week Israeli government officials disclosed that they would consider taking significant offensive measures to remediate the situation.
