Egypt Cancels Meetings with Israel as Relations Sour: Report

Egyptian military officials have abruptly cancelled scheduled meetings with representatives from Israel, according to a Monday report by i24News.

Sources in Jerusalem told the Israeli news outlet that the decision was made on short notice, with one individual describing the matter as a "betrayal."

The diplomatic tension comes as Cairo has voiced strong criticism over a potential IDF incursion into Rafah, a municipality that shares a border with the North African nation. Egypt has expressed concerns in the past that such an action may be destabilizing for its government.

In addition to this latest incident, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that they will be joining the South African-led effort at the International Court of Justice to adjudicate the Jewish state as being complicit in ‘genocide’ against Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Interaction between the two nations has historically been stable since they signed a peace treaty in 1979. Both countries share normalized relations and have cooperated on security issues in the past.
