Israel’s Shin Bet internal security agency announced on Sunday that they arrested several members of a Hamas cell that were planning to take part in a shooting attack against Jewish residents in the West Bank.

Officials identified the alleged participants as students from the Palestinian Birzeit University, who they said were given instructions and funding from individuals affiliated with the terrorist organization’s representatives in Turkey.

The suspected leader of the group, Mahmoud Anjatz, is accused of recruiting four of his classmates to assist in the failed mission.

An assault rifle and several thousand dollars in cash were seized when they were taken into custody.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israeli security forces have detained over 4,000 persons in Judea and Samaria, with more than 1,800 of them being associates of Hamas.
