Israeli defense officials announced on Sunday that they had intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen, hours after the Jewish state launched a preventive operation against Houthi infrastructure in the war-torn country.

The weapon was reported to have been detected and destroyed before it entered Israel’s airspace.

The Tehran-backed Houthis confirmed the deployment of the projectile on a Telegram account, describing the incident as an incursion that targeted Eilat “in response to the American, British, and Israeli aggression against our country.”

Israel’s airstrikes on the port city of Hodeidah, in response to a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv last Friday, marked Jerusalem's first known response to the militant group's nine-month regional military campaign in solidarity with Hamas terrorists. This effort has included direct assaults on Israel and the area’s shipping industry.
