Israeli forces on Tuesday revealed details about an underground terrorist route that was uncovered in a mosque, during an ongoing counterterror operation in the West Bank city of Jenin.
“During the anti-terrorist activity in the Jenin refugee camp, the fighters of the Yahalom unit, Egoz and Oketz, and under the direction of the Shin Bet, investigated and neutralized an underground terrorist route in the city's Al Ansari mosque,” a joint statement said.
“During the night and after an activity by the fighters of the Egoz unit and Yahalom, on the basis of accurate intelligence information from the Shin Bet, to confiscate ammunition and neutralize the shafts in the Al Ansari mosque in the refugee camp, the fighters of the Yalam unit investigated the route of the mosque using advanced technological tools,” it added.
According to the commander of the Egoz unit, the excavations carried out in the mosque “turned it into a fortified target."
