Hebrew media reported on Tuesday, that a terror attack occurred in the West Bank city of Ma’ale Adumim, resulting in six Israelis being shot. One of the victims is reported to be in serious condition, as confirmed local security officials.
According to reports, a Palestinian terrorist opened fire at a group of people located outside of a shopping mall in the city. However, an off-duty Border Police officer intervened and shot the terrorist dead while the perpetrator attempted to flee.
Among the victims, a man in his 40s was reported by the Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service to be in serious condition, while The Times of Israel reported that a 14-year-old boy and men aged 28, 29, and 37 were listed in moderate condition. Another man in his 20s was said to have suffered minor injuries.
Police at the scene said that the heroic actions of the officer played a crucial role in confronting the terrorist. The officer, who was in the process of getting a haircut at a nearby barbershop, engaged with the gunman and successfully killed the attacker.
The shooter was identified as 20-year-old Mohannad Muhammad Suleiman al-Mazra’a, from al-Azariya, according to the Shin Bet security agency.
Following the attack, the Gaza-based terrorist organization, Hamas, issued a press statement, congratulating al-Mazra’a for his actions and praising the shooting as “heroic and daring.”
The Ma’ale Adumim municipality announced that entry of non-residents would be restricted, and security forces would be reinforced throughout the city as a precautionary measure.
